Backstory/Stats
May. 17th, 2014 05:28 amAge: Eternally 18 in appearance. Actual age is unknown by even Tavores himself.
Height: Average
Weight: Definitely underweight.
Eyes: Blood red (shift to gold when under full control of his alternate persona)
Hair: Red
Species: Demon, former-human
Appearance: Has a long jagged scar over his left eye, although the eye itself is unharmed. (He has a similar scar over his chest, indicative of the wound that should have killed him.) He usually keeps his eyes hidden under glasses because he resents their color. Also has enormous black-feathered wings, which he can choose to hide at will. Has small but very sharp fangs. He looks perpetually unhealthy and far too pale. There is a dark red hexacle branded into the back of his neck.
Tavores always dresses archaically refined and has some manner of rings or amulets on his person. He carries himself with a regal air and is very deliberate in his movements.
Personality: Prior to his transformation into a demon, Tavores was polite and reserved. He was kind-hearted but more concerned with responsibility than grand adventure. People used to joke that he took the world too seriously. Tavores wanted to ensure his kingdom was as peaceful and happy as possible, although he was tough on criminals.
Post-transformation, he is either a psychotic sadist obsessed with blood or a sullen, broken man who curses the fate that had brought him here. He finds it impossible to appreciate anything other than his sister and he frequently tried to kill himself, only to find that he had remarkable healing abilities. He is quick to lose his temper and control of his powers. Though he remains polite to women, Tavores now views the entire rest of the world with disdain. His demonic self is a fan of total destruction and, when in full control, often speaks in a sing-song voice, with lots of fluid movements. This self is seductive and forceful, traits the sorcerer had instilled in him.
Overall, despite how cavalier he may come across at times, Tavores is incredibly emotionally and psychologically unstable and prone to unpredictable and volatile actions at any time.
Oh, and he likes tea. That's about it.
Story: Tavores is the prince of a long-forgotten kingdom. His parents were killed when he was a child due to their association with a family believed to be in possession of a coveted magic item. Tavores and his twin sister, Reyna, were visiting another royal family at the time. Tavores' aunt remained regent over Tavores until he came of age. During that time, whoever killed the king and queen begin systemically assassinating all Tavores' relatives. Security was increased but Tavores refused requests to go into hiding, saying that he couldn't abandon his people and that whoever was responsible for the murders would surely try to seize power while he was gone.
The eve of Tavores' coronation upon his 18th birthday revealed that a powerful sorcerer, whose name Tavores has long forgotten, had infiltrated his castle. The sorcerer bewitched the guards to turn on the castle and slaughtered Tavores' aunt, along with Tavores' servants and any nobles that had been overnighting for the coronation. Tavores himself was fatally wounded by his most loyal guard. As he lay dying, he heard Reyna's screams in the distance. The sorcerer appeared before the dying Tavores and promised him that he would salvage Tavores' life so Tavores could save Reyna if Tavores agreed to become his. Although Tavores knew that agreeing would hand his kingdom over to the sorcerer, he couldn't abandon his sister to the tortures that surely waited her. When he agreed, the sorcerer cursed Tavores, transforming him into a demon through a magic Tavores had never even heard of.
Tavores remained the sorcerer's servant for years and was frequently physically/psychologically tortured and used for assassin missions. Reyna remained with him, despite his protests, and the sorcerer guaranteed her safety as long as Tavores remained compliant. But the constant murders and demonic mutations on his body took their toll on Tavores' mind and it splintered. He created a separate personality to carry out the sorcerer's directives and reserved his original personality just for Reyna. Gradually, the second personality grew in power, as it was the one in most use and flourished under Tavores' increasing magical affinity. Tavores' power fed off murder and violence, manifesting in control over fire. At the same time, Tavores' morality continued to slip more and more.
Eventually, Tavores' devotion to Reyna and need to feel solace in her presence turned into an aching desire to have her with him always. He became possessive and obsessive and much more physical. Though Reyna had stayed by Tavores' side all this time, she now saw him as dangerous and unpredictable. His temper had also grown more volatile. Afraid that Tavores would end up hurting her and thus destroying the only piece left of her brother, Reyna drugged Tavores and fled. The sorcerer humored Tavores' searching, but he never found her.
With Reyna gone, Tavores no longer had any reason to remain loyal to the sorcerer so the sorcerer. Or so he thought. When he attempted to leave to pursue his own agenda, Tavores discovered that this whole time he had been bound to the sorcerer with blood magic and that the very act of considering disobeying the sorcerer caused his body to practically shut down. While Tavores' original personality would have preferred death, his new one very much craved life. So his loyalty toward the sorcerer was set in stone.
A long time after Reyna had left, a chance encounter brought Tavores into the company of a young girl named Dani. Dani was so much like the Reyna that Tavores had grown up with that she drew out his original personality and Tavores worked to spend us much of his clarity time as he could with her. Though Tavores was not easy to get along with, being a mental wreck, Dani was patient and the two slowly grew closer until Tavores realized he was in love with her. Afraid that his love would endanger her as it had Reyna, Tavores attempted to leave Dani. That's when he discovered she was related to the family in possession of the coveted relic his parents had once died for. Tavores tried to get Dani to flee, but his conditioning kicked in and he kidnapped Dani for the sorceror.
When the sorcerer tried to take the relic from Dani, it transformed into a weapon. Tavores was able to gain enough lucidity to urge Dani to fight back, an act that nearly killed him. Upon coming back to consciousness, Tavores saw that the sorcerer had gained the upper hand and was about to kill Dani. He lunged at the sorcerer, half-taking the attack, and threw them both from the tower they were fighting in, activating the sorcerer's fail-safe spell on him and stopping his heart, as the sorcerer was killed on impact.
